A Gloomhaven Campaign Tracker Without the Notebook: 5-Minute Setup
Three sessions into Gloomhaven, the notebook is already the weakest part of the campaign. Someone wrote the Brute's gold in pencil, the Spellweaver's XP is on a sticky note, and nobody is sure whether scenario 4 was finished or just unlocked.
MeepleShelf's Gloomhaven campaign tracker keeps those numbers in one place: each character's level, XP and gold, and the state of every scenario. Setup takes about five minutes before your next session. Below are the steps, plus what the tracker won't do for you.
What the campaign tracker keeps
A campaign holds two things.
- Characters: player name, character name, class, level, XP and gold. Retired characters stay on the list, greyed out.
- Scenarios: every scenario is a card that's either Locked, Open or Done. The top of the page counts how many you have in each state.
It's stored in your MeepleShelf account, not in the browser, so you can open the same campaign on your phone at the table and on your laptop at home.
Set up your Gloomhaven campaign in 5 minutes
- Sign in. Campaigns live in the cloud, so the tracker needs a free account. Without one you'll see a sign-in prompt instead of the tool.
- Create the campaign. Tap New campaign, give it a name ("Thursday mercs" works), and pick Gloomhaven (95) as the template. That fills in all 95 scenarios from the base game.
- Choose a spoiler mode. Strict blurs the names of locked scenarios, and a few spoiler names even after you've played them. Relaxed shows the names but keeps unlock conditions blurred. Pick Strict if anyone at the table cares about surprises.
- Add your characters. For each one, type the player's name, the character's name and the class. Class is free text, so "Brute" or "Tinkerer" is fine. Every new character starts at level 1, 0 XP and 30 gold.
- Mark Black Barrow. If you've already played scenario 1, tap its card until it turns green (Done).
That's the whole setup.
Pro tip: Let one person be the campaign keeper. The campaign belongs to the account that created it, and only that account can edit it.
After each session: a 1-minute update
Scenario cards cycle with each tap: Locked (grey) → Open (amber) → Done (green) → back to Locked. Character numbers open for editing when you tap the level line under a name.
| After the session | What to tap |
|---|---|
| You finished a scenario | Tap its card until it turns green |
| The scenario book unlocked new ones | Tap each locked card once to make it Open |
| A character gained XP or gold | Tap their level line, change the numbers, confirm |
| Someone levelled up | Same line, raise the level |
| A personal quest was completed | Use the lock icon on that row to retire the character |
| A new character joins | Add character, then fix level and gold if they don't start at 1 and 30 |
The scenario book is still the authority. The tracker records what you tell it; it doesn't decide what unlocks.
Free account or Premium?
On a free account, one campaign can hold two active characters. That covers a two-player party, or two of your four seats. Retired characters don't count toward the limit, so retiring one frees a slot for its replacement.
| Free account | Premium | |
|---|---|---|
| Active campaigns | 1 | Unlimited |
| Active characters per campaign | 2 | Unlimited |
| Character sheet export (PNG / PDF) | No | Yes |
| Campaign summary export (PDF) | No | Yes |
When a campaign is over, archive it. It moves to the Archive list, stops counting as active, and you can start the next one.
What it doesn't do (yet)
These parts of the campaign still live in the box:
- Only the first ten scenarios have names. From #11 onward the cards read "Scenario #11", "Scenario #12" and so on, and in Strict mode even those labels are blurred. Match them to your scenario book by number.
- It doesn't follow the unlock chain. You set every state yourself. A fresh Gloomhaven campaign opens scenario 1 and #11 to #95 as Open, while #2 to #10 start Locked. If you'd rather see only what you've really unlocked, tap the later ones round to Locked as you go, or read Done as the only state that matters.
- No perks, items or personal quests. There's no attack modifier deck, no checkmarks, no shop. Keep the character mats and the item cards.
- No prosperity, reputation or city events. The town side of the campaign stays on the map and in the box.
- No party sharing yet. Other players can't sign in and see the campaign; the keeper's account holds it.
- It doesn't run the scenario. No monster turns, no initiative. It's a ledger for between sessions.
More than Gloomhaven
The same tracker has templates for Frosthaven and Pandemic Legacy Seasons 1 and 2. If a scenario you need isn't on the grid, type its number into the Add field above it.
If your group's card selection drags on, the Turn Timer keeps it moving without anyone having to be the bad guy.
Start your campaign
Create the campaign, add two characters and mark Black Barrow before your next session.
