Scoring Categories
Most of Azul's points are scored during play, every time a tile moves to your wall. The end-game bonuses for rows, columns and colors often decide close games, and floor-line penalties are where most scoring mistakes happen.
Wall
Number input · min 0
Each tile scores the moment it is placed. A tile with no neighbours is worth 1 point. Otherwise count the unbroken line of tiles it joins horizontally and vertically — including the new tile in each direction — and add both counts.
Complete Rows
Number input · 0–10
At the end of the game, 2 points for every complete horizontal row of 5 tiles.
Complete Columns
Number input · 0–35
At the end of the game, 7 points for every complete vertical column of 5 tiles.
Complete Colors
Number input · 0–50
At the end of the game, 10 points for every color you placed all 5 tiles of.
Floor Penalty
Number input · -14–0
Each round, tiles on your floor line cost 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 3 and 3 points from left to right (up to −14). The first player marker counts as a floor tile. Your score never drops below 0.
Common scoring mistakes
- Counting the new tile only once when it extends both a row and a column — it counts in both directions.
- Forgetting that taking the first player marker puts it on your floor line.
- Letting a score go negative after floor penalties; it stops at 0.
