Scoring Categories
Catan has a single score track, but points come from five different places — and two of them can change hands mid-game. The first player to reach 10 victory points on their own turn wins.
Victory Points
Counter (+/−) · 0–20
Each settlement is worth 1 point and each city 2. Longest Road (an unbroken road of at least 5 segments) and Largest Army (at least 3 played knights) are worth 2 points each while you hold them. Every Victory Point development card is worth 1 point and can stay hidden until you win.
Common scoring mistakes
- Forgetting that Longest Road and Largest Army move: if another player builds a longer road or plays more knights, take the 2 points off your total.
- Declaring victory on someone else's turn — you only win when you reach 10 points during your own turn.
- Leaving hidden Victory Point cards out of the final count. Reveal them before you compare scores.
